The aim of the course is to give a broad and updated overview of the field of antimicrobial resistance and how to work in order to influence antibiotic use and thus contain resistance.

Course content
The content will include but is not limited to:
• Global antibiotic use and resistance, including measurements.
• Surveillance; resistance, antibiotic use, health care-associated infections.
• Community and health care provider communication and how to change provider behaviour.
• Guidelines and antibiotic stewardship
• Health care associated infections and hygiene.
• Antibiotics and resistance in veterinary medicine and implications for humans.
• Antibiotics, antibiotic resistance and the environment.

Course structure
The course is organized in the following modules:
1. Surveillance systems.
2. Stewardship programs.
3. Antibiotic use and resistance outside human medicine.
4. Methods for monitoring and evaluation.

The participants will receive material that can be adapted and used in train the trainer’s situations.
